Development

Nature Boy was the result of Massive Attack being persuaded by Baz Luhrmann, a movie director they had previously met some years ago, when he was making his acclaimed film "Romeo and Juliet" to contribute a song to his upcoming film. Baz Luhrmann had kept Massive Attack in mind, since meeting them and was determined to make them apart of the soundtrack to his new 2001 musical film "Moulin Rouge".

Initially, Massive Attack were not too keen on getting involved believing the film wasn't suited for them. Baz Luhrmann had one final trump card to play however, and that would be David Bowie, whom he had met in New York and was already confirmed to be doing work on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Baz had broached the topic of a possible Massive…

Hi diplomat11. Thanks for signing up.

I'm pretty sure the Setting sun dub was only ever released on MA's Myspace back in 2007, so any rips of it floating about are from that. No lossless version of it out there I'm afraid.

Yes, its genuine. Its was posted on the Dragons of Zynth Myspace page in 2007. The 128 kbps mp3 is probably the best quality available as its just a MySpace rip.

Dragons of Zynth are a Brooklyn band with close ties with TV On The Radio. The song is more than likely a product of the 2005 Williamsburg sessions when D and Neil went over there to record with TV On The Radio and did a bit with Dragons of Zynth on the side.

Actually, now that I look around my hard drive, I seem to have misplaced the Get Off remix. If you could uploaded that one for me herod? I have'nt heard it in about 5 years...

Also, I have something else I can share with you related to MA/Dragons of Zynth, but I'll have to do that in a PM which I'll send you now.

In addition to the two I requested, I thought of one more- that track I periodically see called "Get Off (Massive Attack demo)" by some band called Dragons of Zynth. Do you know what the story is with that? Is it legitimate? Is it something Massive Attack recorded for this band a long time ago? And if it is real, do you have a better quality copy of it than the 128 kbps mp3 I have? Thanks again.

The engulfed in flames picture seems quite cringeworthily portentous looking at it now, but such is the price of selling Cool.

Not to be on too undue a downer, but an utter rehash of past public record it would seem, and it is, or was, Olympic (RIP) Studios (rather than the hub of Earls Court) - maker of finest cups of tea, cleaner of shiniest cups, purveyor of finest health and safety regulations.

Don't know what mystery is left about all this. The pressure was within. The downside of a glamorously 'loose collective' not having clarity of roles or vaguely collective aim. Regarding the aspect of it gone into here, Mushroom was (effectively) fired because he tried to appropriate Teardrop/No Don't/whatever secretly (with a view to changing the singer and elements obviously) and oddly tried to bring Neil Davidge in on the ruse and Neil said no and told on Vowles. Egregious disloyalty was the crime. The key egotistical faux-pas of downfall, the last act of 'treachery', the final straw, after leaking it to Her Madgesty without consultation... AV just wasn't important and central enough anymore to justify this outlying rogue antagonist position he insisted on taking as his inartful way of dealing with the control issue. Was never any serious interest on his part to do his own record at this time (or perhaps since?)

According to something read on here last time logging in, they've since had a patch-up (which the piece makes no mention of) - good for AV maybe as the only way the Teardrop Firee will have a shred of music out ever will be if he rejoins the b(r)and for their presumably final hip-replacement-hop opus, having failed to succeed on his own, despite industry respect, backing, 14 years and millions of pounds, somewhat bizarrely. That point makes me feel slightly better about my own failures for about 14 seconds.

Aint that the truth!

Could almost empathise with the trademark vindictiveness, if the publicity-yearning trash talk that makes the Gallagher brothers sound like diplomats wasn't such a blatantly self-serving cover-up of his own worse pretension (which exists now, as opposed to the 1980's) and own, current, presumably dreadful record.
