How do I download shows from this site using Bittorrent?

This site uses BitTorrent which is a peer-to-peer protocol for downloading shows. You will need to have a BitTorrent client installed on your computer in order to use it. After installing a client, you will need to download the .torrent file located at the end of the first post in the torrent thread and open that .torrent file with your BitTorrent client. It will then take a few hours to a couple of days to download your show depending upon the number of peers still connected to the torrent and on your upload/download speed for the torrent. There are many other factors that go into the speed also.

lso, please notice that in your client it will down the total amount of data you have downloaded and uploaded for that torrent. It is common courtesy to make sure you upload as much data for the torrent as you downloaded. This may require you to not stop your client as soon as you complete the download, but instead to 'leave the window open' so others may continue their download from you.

My port number is in red in the Peers List. What does this mean?
If your port number is showing up as RED in the Peers List or it says FIREWALLED under your username stats, then the tracker has determined that you are firewalled or NATed and cannot accept incoming connections. This means that other peers in the swarm will be unable to connect to you, only you to them. Even worse, if two peers are both in this state they will not be able to connect at all. This has obviously a detrimental effect on the overall speed.

Please check these additional links for more information on the subject and how to not get firewalled:

How do I create a torrent?
Read the documenatation provided with whatever Bittorrent client you are using. When you are asked to input the tracker URL to use, make sure you use this one: http://www.massiveattack.ie/community/forum/announce.php

What type of recordings can I upload?

No upload, be that a torrent or from a one click hosting provider that has been compressed to a lossy format at some point in the past will be accepted here. This includes mp3, ogg, aac, or any other lossy format. Also note that lossless filetypes other than FLAC, APE, and SHN are not permitted; this includes WAV, AIFF, ALC, MKW, Windows Lossless, Real Lossless, and any other lossless format.

This policy is in effect due to accordance of the majority of the tapers who have recorded these bootlegs. The only exception to this rule is that lossy compressed sources may be shared, but only if they are from a show which is NOT shared currently in lossless audio quality in the forum or on the Bootography section of MASSIVEATTACK.IE.

Can I sell these recordings I've just downloaded?
No absolutely not! These recordings were provided for free by the original tapers and would show great disrespect to them and to this community if they were later sold for profit. If you should find anyone selling these recordings onwards please contact MASSIVEATTACK.IE and report them. You may of course trade these shows freely with others, but only if they are preserved as they are i.e no lossy (mp3 etc...) trading of these shows. This is again an effort to respect the orginal tapers wishes. You may lossy compress the shows for your own personal use, but anytime you pass on or trade these bootlegs, please keep them as you found them with the orginal untouched FLAC files and the info text file and the FLAC fingerprint/MD5 checksum intact.

What infomation should I include when I'm uploading?

While it is not necessary to include anything other than the audio/video files you are uploading, it is advisable to include as much information as possible. This infomation should be included within a .txt file entitled info. This info file should include details such as the venue and date, lineage and an accurate setlist included as part of your text file. For help, see the examples of the different bootlegs here on MASSIVEATTACK.IE to see how to write a suitable info file.

Also, additonally it might be a good idea to include some sort of checksum file with your uploads, such as a FLAC Fingerprint file (in the case of FLAC files) or and MD5 checksum (for when you are uploading a DVD or large video file).
