The movie definitely wasn't trying to be realistic in any sense, and I'm not even talking about the monster. The part when the girl whose been impaled on some spike for a few hours, is somehow miraculously able to get up and run around for the rest of the film was laughable.
But I can see what they were trying to do with the hand-held camera thing. Just that it came across as a gimmick more than anything else to me. The Blair witch Project used the hand-held technique out of necessity as they had no money, but this film used it more as a gimmick and a marketing ploy. Hmmm think it wouldve been worse without the characters... but I know what you saying you don't watch it particularly caring about the romance dimension or whatever and yeah the impaling and some other things were implausible... thought it was alright when I saw it at the cinema... Godzilla was terrible?!?!
