What Movie Have You Just Seen?
There's another similar thread like this on the official boards, so I thought it would be a good idea to bring it over here.
Anyway, it was Southland Tales for me yesterday. It's the first film since Donnie Darko for the director Richard Kelly and it's much like Donnie Darko in the sense its a real mindfuck. Hard to make sense of what was going on especially when the time traveling aspect came into the story. If you like Donnie Darko you should see this one even though I'm not sure how everyone will react. I'll probably need to see another time to make up my full mind about it. Apart from the odd storyline (really no way I can explain it coherently - much like this post) the film had a cool cast, a bit unusual for a film like this...especially with The Rock heading it up. Nothing like he's done before. Still feeling bemused by this one even though I know there's alot of messages in it Very David Lynch. |

Just saw Stephen King's The Mist, an effective little horror flick.
It was an nice change of pace from the usual torture porn inflicting horror cinema lately (e.g Saw, Hostel) and it had a refreshingly bleak, non-Hollywood ending. Anyone else seen it? |

Saw Brick on FilmFour last night. Very cool little indie flick. Best described as a film-noir Philip Marlowe type detective story set in a high school.
It might be replayed sometime later this week again FilmFour. |

With Shoot Em'Up just leave your brain at the door and you should enjoy it. Way over the top that movie but that was the intention so...

I just watched Control, the Anton Corbijn biopic of Ian Curtis. I've been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint. Will change the way i listen to Joy Division and the feelings associated with the songs forever. Trailer here http://momentum.control.substance001.com/Main.html

Cloverfield... just there now.
Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project for reference. Not bad, but the first 15 minutes were terribly boring though waiting for the monster to show up. In terms of monster movies, The Mist was better. |

do u not think that was the point to make it seem somehow more 'real' and MTV-umentary like by it not appearing to be a monster movie to begin with...
