Petiton For A More Varied Setlist This Year
Right. I don't think its just me but if there was one thing I could change about Massive on stage it would be a bit more variation when it comes to the order of the songs. Just look in the Gigography section if you don't believe me. I'd say there all getting a bit bored of it too especially Angelo, Winston and everyone else who has to play an instrument on stage.
Now there might well be an new song or two played on this year's tour but I still doubt that there will be any change beyond that. Maybe Live With Me for one or two dates if Terry is also there. Off the top of my head, I like how Radiohead always seem to vary their setlists each night. Could Massive Attack do the same? I would even sacrifice some of the visuals if it meant this. Can anyone think of a live band with a less varying setlist than Massive Attack?

Maybe MA can't be as surprising and flexible as Radiohead but they can play something different. Occasionally.
One of the great mysteries of MA is why songs like Sly and Protection are sacred and can't ever be performed by others but Unfinished Sympathy, SFH and Teardrop can. I've always presumed that there are certain songs that D just doesn't like so they'll never get played... like Mushroom's Exchange or Dissolved Girl a 'film song', heck everything else of their third album gets played, tends to be the same as the entire setlist most nights. I've also presumed a lot of 100th Window tracks don't lend themselves to being played live and so are not bothered with. D doesn't like a lot of Blue Lines and certain people can't be there to do their bits, which rules stuff like Five Man Army out... tho G could do Willie Wee and Tricky's bits easily enough... D's perhaps not too keen on Protection as an album, which is why people only tend to get Karmacoma and Spying Glass off that. They could at least change it up with Eurochild every then and now, but alas no. I guess the Craig Armstrong stuff isn't really feasible without Armstrong... |

In terms of the ORDER of songs, I think ALWAYS every single time for 1000s of times probably every time they've ever performed to make Unfinished the encore is boring and could be changed up.
That said, certain songs like Angel do make sense at the beginning and stuff so... and as much as I'd love to hear Unfinished right at the start just for the confusion of it, can't ever see anything shocking like that happening in a million MA years... |

I'm sick of Group Four as the climax, even though it was Future Proof in 2004. Also about Angel, it would be nice to hear it as on the album with the longer intro and outro.
Ah well, we're both big fans. It's alright to have a moan about these things now and again. |

I know a lot of people would love the original/unoriginal Black Milk as well, that bassline, just for the change of it, but, I guess out of pride, D has to have his preferred punk version played instead

Oh yeah. That one has got to go. I thought the only point of it was to play it on the 2003 tour and as a bit of "get one back on" on Manfred Mann for suing them over the sample. Can't understand why that one is so apart of the setlists even till now. Hopefully a new song will replace it this year.

Right about Angel, should be back to how it and all the other tracks were being done around 03. Some of the change-ups didn't improve things. The one that comes to mind is that new continuous synth sound that they started playing in the background of Mezzanine [on the Abbey Rd session I think] its not in tune with the rest of the song... a consequence of boredom perhaps? |
