The 2nd of the two Massive Attack and Young Fathers collaborations is released on this date as part of the Assassin’s Creed movie soundtrack. The track “He Says He Needs Me” was first debuted online in a radically different mix just over a year ago and was played live regularly throughout the 2016 tour.
Released today to watch for free on Vimeo was a new documentary about the plight of the Ecuadorian rainforest narrated by Daddy G. It also featured new music from Daddy G with help from producer Stew Jackson, who also worked with him on this year’s The Spoils EP.
Massive Attack using the pseudonym of Euanwhosarmy (a play on words of co-producer’s Euan Dickinson’s name) released a new track today online called “For Nothing” as part of the newly released Tricky EP “Obia”. The EP was a collection of artists that Tricky invited to be released on his False Idols label. The “For Nothing track” was’nt a collobaoration with Tricky himself but with a new singer called Lyndsey Lupe.
Starting this week, Massive Atatck in collaboartion with the Vinyl Factory released a limited ediiton 12″ single called “Dear Friend”, featuring the vocals of London-based spoken word artist James Massiah. This 12″ vinyl was orignally sold at the beginning of the month at Massive Attack’s homecoming gig for one day only before being made available to buy online this week. The track has yet to be released on any other format.
Massive Attack finished off their 51 date live tour in 2016 by playing their hometown of Bristol on this date. The support for the show included Primal Scream, Skepta and Savages. Massive Attack’s last time playing in bristol properly was in 2005.
The Daddy G produced EP “The Spoils” is released today digitally to buy online. The two track EP featured the vocals of both Hope Sandoval and Ghostpoet. A vinyl edition of the EP would follow in November.
Massive Attack played one of the biggest live shows in their history to an audience of nearly 30,000 in London’s Hyde Park on this date. This show is also memorable because they were joined live on stage by Tricky to perform Take It There, and the band also played Eurochild for the first time since 1999 in response to the UK’s Brexit referendum result the week before.
In celebration of the recent Ritual Spirit EP release, 3D in collaboration with London’s Lazarides gallery opened a art exhibit of his work on this date that ran until the 5th March. At the show launch, 300 limited edition 12″ vinyls of the EP were made available to buy for £30.

Massive Attack kicked off their 51 date 2016 tour on this date at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre. This particular show was the first time ever that new songs from the upcoming Ritual Spirit EP were first heard that being – Ritual Spirit, Voodoo In My Blood and Take It There.
